Singapore set up Casino Crime Investigation Branch

SINGAPORE : Singapore Police have set up a unit called the Casino Crime Investigation Branch.



It is dedicated to combat offences that come under the Casino Control Act.

The move comes ahead of the opening of the casinos at Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands.

The authorities said it is too early to tell if there will be syndicated crimes as there has been no such indication from their current intelligence.

At the launch on Wednesday, it was revealed that the branch has been operational since July last year. The branch comprises 30 officers.

Michael Ang, head, Casino Crime Investigation Branch, said: "To prepare ourselves and make sure our officers are ready, we sent our officer overseas for training as well as (brought) experts from overseas to train our guys so that they can understand the games being played." - CNA/ms
